Who this is for

Study Bloom is an online tutoring platform used by school-age students, their parents or guardians, and tutors. Because many of our students are under 18, we collect as little information as we can and keep it for as short a time as we can.

What we store about you

  • Account details: name, email, role (student or tutor), time zone, avatar.
  • Student profile: grade level, school, subjects, learning goals, date of birth.
  • Parent/guardian consent records for students under 13.
  • Bookings, session times, payments (card details are handled by Stripe, never by us).
  • Messages with your tutor, files you share in a session, and tutor session notes.
  • Progress records: quiz scores, goals, tutor feedback, study tools activity.

AI processing (AI Help, quizzes, study guides)

When you ask AI Help a question, your question — plus limited context such as your grade and subject — is sent to our AI provider to generate an answer. We store a short record of the topic and a summary so it can appear on your progress page. You can see these records on your Progress page.

AI answers are study help, not a replacement for your tutor or teacher, and can occasionally be wrong.

Voice Tutor and microphone

  • The microphone only turns on after you press “Start voice session” and grant permission.
  • While a session runs, the page always shows whether Bloom is listening, thinking or speaking, and a “microphone is on” indicator.
  • Short audio clips of what you say are sent for speech-to-text conversion, and Bloom’s reply is sent for text-to-speech. Audio is never recorded or stored by Study Bloom.
  • The live transcript stays in your browser only. It is cleared when you refresh, end the session or press “Clear”.
  • When you end a session we save one short study summary: subject, topic, how long you spoke, topics practised, questions practised and a next step. The conversation itself is not saved.
  • Ending a session stops the microphone completely.

How long we keep things (retention)

  • Voice Tutor summaries: 90 days. They are deleted automatically by a daily clean-up job once they expire, and you can delete any of them sooner from your Progress page.
  • Voice and AI audio: not retained at all.
  • Account, session, progress and payment records: kept while your account is open. Payment records may be kept longer where tax or accounting law requires it.
  • Deleted account: your personal data is removed, and related records are deleted with it.

Who can see your information

Students only ever see their own data. A tutor can only see students they are actually booked with, plus the notes and progress entries for those sessions. Private tutor notes marked unshared are not shown to students. Administrators can access accounts only to run the platform, handle reports and keep students safe, and their actions are logged.

Parent and guardian consent

Students under 13 must have a parent or guardian recorded before using AI Help or Voice Tutor. Students aged 13 and over can use these tools themselves, unless their school or local law requires guardian approval. Consent is stored with the guardian’s name, email, relationship and what they approved, and it can be withdrawn at any time from Profile → Privacy & consent. Withdrawing consent turns off AI Help and Voice Tutor for that student.

Your choices

  • Delete any Voice Tutor summary from Progress.
  • Clear a live transcript at any time in Voice Tutor.
  • Block or report another user from your profile or a conversation.
  • Delete your account entirely from Profile → Account safety.
